What are my chances?

Nursing Students Technicians

Published

Hey I'm new to this site, and recently graduated from a red cross CNA training program. I plan on getting certified within the next few weeks, and I'm currently looking to score a hospital gig as a PCT/PCA. I currently have over 2 years experience as a mental health worker at a well known psych hospital where I take vital signs, use glucometer, etc, and applied internally to 20+ job positions at the various hospitals that mine is associated with. I'm getting anxious as it's only been a few days since I applied to these jobs, and I was wondering what are my chances of getting an interview/hired? I should also add that I plan on applying to an absn program for 2017, and vaguely mentioned that in my cover letter. Any thoughts would be mucho appreciated!

Why not apply as a tech at the hospital you worked at? Or have you?

I really think it depends and no one can give you an exact answer. I applied as techs at five hospital systems in my community and one dialysis company, getting calls back from 3/6 and accepting positions at 2/6. I have a years' experience as a CNA in a nursing home and before that worked in a pharmaceutical call center for three months and an answering service company for a year. I am a pre-nursing student.

Majority of the requirements for the positions I applied for were a year of patient care experience OR CNA OR second semester nursing student. I had both the year of patient care experience and my CNA. But to really put it in perspective, I applied for at least 50 positions between the various facilities and only got called back regarding 5 positions.

That's my experience and I wish you the best of luck with yours :)

Oh my, 50 positions and only a call back from 5? I'll cross my fingers hoping I at least hear back from 1, haha. My hospital is strictly psych, and the patients if any, have very minimal medical issues that don't require a lot of attention, so there's no CNA/PCA job positions. Thanks so much for your response and wishing me luck!!
