What is Board Certification

Hi Everyone! I graduated in July and passed my NCLEX in August and am now working as an RN. I was wondering....

What is Board Certification and how do I go about working towards it? I cannot pursue my BSN at present so I thought I would work on a BC? I have googled it but there is SO much information out there. Can anyone forward a thread link or a website, I would truly appreciate it.

Thank you!

Board Certification pertains to physician specialties, basically it means that have met certain criteria and passed an exam that deems them competent and able to practice a certain specialty (e.g a board certified plastic surgeon).

As for Nursing you can gain certification in a specialty through different credentialing agencies. some of these include CCRN (critical care RN), CNRN (certified neuro RN).

go to .. http://www.nursecredentialing.com for the ANCC, which is the site where I got my Board Certification in Gerontology. They offer many different focuses, and some are for Nurse Practitioners, its easy to filter that out though.

Look for CERTIFICATION then CHOOSE YOUR SPECIALTY. you will see a list pop up.

The requirments for the certification are listed under each individual title.

Good luck.
