Weekend Case Manager

I'm a RN with 6 years experience working in med-surg/trauma unit in Detroit. I have always wanted to do case management, however, my only availability is Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday. I recently saw a job posting for a weekend contingent case manager at my hospital (approx 700 beds). I was thinking of applying for the position because I want to do something different. My questions are...

1. Do you think it is feasible to do weekend coverage with no experience? I would cover the hospital except the ER. I'm sure they would train me but I haven't inquired about the position yet.

2. Do case managers make more than RN's? Currently, I make a couple cents less than $30/hr.

Any advise/tips would be appreciated! Thank you!

Yes, with training/orientation.

Not typically in the beginning. In fact, most of us took a pay cut to work as Case Managers when we transitioned from our bedside positions. If you end up making the same or more as a new CM, then let us know. Most of us make more after years of CM work experience.

Any advise/tips would be appreciated! Thank you!
