although there are several supplemental acls texts available from several authors/sources, all the information that you need to pass acls is included in the acls provider manual.
the acls provider manual is available from either channing bete, laerdal, or world point for $28.50, plus shipping/handling.
the acls resource text for instructors and experienced providers is also available from either channing bete, laerdal, or world point for $34.95, plus shipping/handling. this resource provides additional information regarding the material in the acls provider manual, as well as material not covered in the standard acls course (toxicology, trauma, etc.).
if you are looking for a pocket reference, the handbook of emergency cardiovascular care for healthcare providers 2008 is also available from either channing bete, laerdal, or world point for $15.95, plus shipping/handling.
all of these titles are available on sites such as amazon.com, however you should be cautious when ordering to ensure you receive the most current version.
also, if you are interested in reading further, the 2005 american heart association guidelines for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (cpr) and emergency cardiovascular care (ecc) are available.
if you are interested in taking acls, the aha now offers it in a blended format in which you complete the cognitive/didactic portion on line, and then contact and aha acls instructor to complete the skills evaluation portion. information on the aha blended program option is available at the following site: aha e-learning acls. if you opt to take the blended course, the cost of the online portion is $105.00. i could not readily locate on the site, but i believe that you have 14 days to complete the entire online portion. after completion of the online portion you can locate an instructor to complete your skills evaluation using the aha ecc course connector website. there might be an additional charge for the skills evaluation. i would also suggest contacting an instructor prior to ensure availability of a skills evaluation prior to enrolling in the course.
if you are interested in attending a traditional aha acls course, you can use the aha ecc course connector to locate an upcoming course.
i hope that this information was helpful.
