Ways to get more involved?

Ive been working on my med surge unit for almost 2 years and I was wondering what type of activities, volunteering, or organizational leadership groups has nurses joined to "expand" their role or experience?

I'm interested in getting more involved in my work.

any suggestions?

thanks!

Have you shared your desire with the leadership on your unit? That is something you should definitely do. They know their hospital system -- and may know of opportunities that you and your friends wouldn't hear about. For example, they may know that some committees or task forces need some new members. They could help you arrange to serve on that committee. They may have improvement projects they would like to start on your unit, but need some help/support to get it started.

Charge Nurse, precepting, unit-based committees, hospital-wide committees, local chapters of professional organizations, etc. ... Ask the people who know your work environment and specialty to help you find the opportunities near year.

Good luck!

join a committee. Join a professional organization. Make friends with people in marketing or occupational med (we do a lot of health fairs thru them)
