Volunteer advice...

Hello all,

I am new to the boards and will be starting an LVN program in the Spring of 2005. In the meantime, I started volunteering at a local hospital in the Level II nursery to get some exposure to the medical world and to help out. I would like any advice you can give a new volunteer. For example, how to be helpful but not in the way. At this particular hospital as a volunteer I am allowed to feed, comfort, stock supplies, change diapers, keep siblings occupied in a playroom, and probably some other ways of helping I haven't been introduced to yet. Do you have volunteers at your hospitals? Do they make your job easier or are they a nuisance? Any pet peaves?

Thanks for your advice!

NurseIon :)
