your views nclex rn

Hey there,

I was in the same dilemma before.Now i am appearing the NCLEX-RN soon and will let u know how i did.

But believe meh if u mix so many things like content from various books then i do not think it is going to

work at all.So till this time i focused only on Hurst review and beside that i used only one book by Linda

Lacharity(priotization and delegation) and was so horrible on the test that it provide with each content

(was around 45-50's) when i 1st did it.Now after finishing each content from Hurst i am getting 70-80's

range and able to figure out why the question is wrong or right.But i will say to use as many resources

as u can for questions but in my own experience use only Hurst content because it will take time to get

into ur long term memory as Marlene says.

I prepared for the NCLEX in about 6 weeks... In that time, I started a small fire in my kitchen, took a week long vacation with my husband and spent 3-4 days with a nasty cold. And in between all of it, I found ways to procrastinate like you wouldn't believe. It was the most disruptive studying I have ever experienced.

I didn't take any review courses. I utilized 4 NCLEX-RN books - Saunders Comprehensive, Davis Q & A, Kaplan 2010 Test Strategies, and LaCharity's Priority and Delegation. I did between 1000-2000 questions and SKIMMED through Saunders in its entirety.

I felt the actual NCLEX was easy, straight forward and common sense. If I had no idea what the question was about, I think I was able to eliminate incorrect options and choose the right one. I think the test matched the Kaplan questions the closest. Davis Q & A was hard, hard, and more hard. I averaged from 50-73 on my practice exams.

Thank you so much. on one side my mind says lets finish saunders comprehensive and then hurst but saunders is too big. i appriciate your views thanks . keep in touch.

I took a Kaplan course. I honestly didn't really use their strategies during my NCLEX! But their QBank was helpful in practicing questions. I also reviewed content with Saunders. I really loved the detail in it. I've also heard great things about LaCharity's Priority and delegation book, but I never had a chance to buy it before my exam. I passed with 75 questions.

I think its important to figure out what you need help with: Is it content or test taking strategy? I felt confident with my test taking, but I knew I needed to focus on content. I answered over 2000 questions and made sure to study content every day.

Look up some mnemonics on this site as well. The safety and infection control REALLY helped me! Good luck. =)

Start with your weak areas. Focus on using only 1-2 books. Some books give too little information, others too much. It will confuse you and drive you crazy. I took a review class and studied for 3 weeks after the class. I mainly did questions and looked up the content I did poorly on. Stay disciplined.
