Ventilators in LTC setting

Would be interested in discussing policy & procedures for a vent unit located in a LTC setting. Our facility works with peds as well as adults; peep settings. Using LP20 vents. Our unit is expanding and we are upgrading from LP6's - need assistance or suggestions: P & P, infection control, changing times of water valves, etc. Any and all topics r/t vents will be responded to and appreciated.

There's a LTC setting with a *vent unit* that does *peds* in Hawaii??? Wow... Go figure. I'm on the Big Island: I'm dying of curiosity... Do you take short-term patients, for instance for respite care or family emergencies, etc.?

My advice is to ask an R.T. from a Respiratory company like Apria to share their guidelines for home care... Or maybe contact someone who case-manages vent-dependent kids in home care... They have things all set up for us skilled nurses to use on our cases.

That's what I do: home care for medically fragile children, sometimes vent-dependent, but always with a trach, though.

Does that help? Or do you seriously want me to scan our flowsheets and email them to you? Let me know...
