I need to figure out a way to tell once again the person who is not even my receptionist to please not put patients in with out clearing it with me, this morning at 11:55 she calls me to tell me that she told a parent that I would see the child since mom insisted that the child be seen now (we close from noon until 1 pm for lunch) turns out that child had a grade I ankle sprain, so no lunch for me or my nurse, since by the time they were registered and worked up it was 12:30 then at 4:55 she calls me and tells me that there is a pt that I needed to see ( I take my last pt at 430) her words to me were he is having trouble breathing, fine this could be urgent, child wound up having a stuffy nose, I told her fine I would see the patient but i needed a receptionist to stay in case i needed her, her reply was well i am not your receptionist so it wont be me, i was like what the heck, I have asked her repeatedly not to do this and if you try and talk to her she gets upset and starts having fits, i guess i need to have a talk with the office manager but she feels that any one who walks in gets seen, that even if they are late for the appt they get seen. My supervising md is out this week and she has already told me that once my schedule is printed up that all walk ins etc get my ok first I have already cut my hair as short as i can so i can't pull it out any more sorry just needed to vent:mad:

Go to the receptionists supervisor. You're the one making money for the practice...not receptionist and not her supervisor. You know what you can see and when you feel like you can handle work ins. Stand your ground!

I would tell her this "You are correct, you are not my receptionist. Even further, you dang sure aren't my triage. But if you still feel the need to decide what is urent and what is not, I will gladly type you up a list of symptoms that move to the front of the line." or you can do it with a little nicer tone, but I'm not good at that.

over lunch i was discussing this with the lab supervisor and she told me to get a copy of P&P and show it to the receptionist, the final decision if i see a walk in or a late show is up to me. My receptionist does no do this to me it just the other one if mine is away from the desk. But good Idea to type up what is considered a urgent situation that cant wait and one that can wait, I have had parents ranting and raving because i could not see the child sooner when they had been screaming since 3 am that thier ear hurt and it is now 430 when they show up and i still have 5 pts to see all because one was 14 minutes late
