Jul 20, 201114 yr Hello! I have seen forums for the previous years' application cycles, but not for the class starting fall 2012. Sooo... how's it going for everyone? I take the GRE on Friday (gah!) so of course I'm trying to avoid studying for that!
Feb 22, 201214 yr Right!! That is what I am saying. I am trying to just sit back and be patient but it is a very exciting time for all of us. We have worked so hard to get to where we are at and for me personally, this is 3 years in the making. I am beyond excited for what is happening right now and just want to absorb and learn more about each program as I come to make a decision.
Feb 22, 201214 yr I feel the exact same way! I am so thrilled that my dreams are all finally coming together! This is such an exciting time in our lives, and while I want it to be August now, I also want to enjoy the next few months as we continue to prepare for this journey :)
Feb 22, 201214 yr I am from Seattle!! Has anyone visited Nashville and have opinions about the city?Seattleite.. I am assuming you are from Seattle. Where are you from exactly? Is the open house more of an activity for prospective students who are in the process of applying? I went to one of these at Seattle University and it was all about applying... not directed at students who have been accepted. Are most people waiting to hear from other schools before making a decision? I am waiting to hear from MGH, Simmons and Samuel Merritt but am really excited about getting into Vanderbilt! For those FNP's... am I reading this right that Vanderbilt's program is only 2 years while most programs (MGH etc.) are 3 years? How can this be?
Feb 22, 201214 yr @KN4321: How cool! I'll graduate from UW this spring and have lived in the city for five years, but I grew up in Kent and spend most weekends in Packwood (tiny town.. I totally understand if you've never heard of it!). Also, I'm not FNP, but as far as I can tell, Vanderbilt and MGH both list 6 semesters total. Perhaps MGH doesn't include summer sessions?
Feb 22, 201214 yr Ya after I wrote that I decided to research and found out that MGH doesn't hold classes in the summer, thus it takes 3 years. I think I would rather go with a school like Vanderbilt that is quicker! @Seattleite did you apply to MGH too? Are you waiting to hear from other schools? Just graduating this Spring... nice! And already applied for Masters? I am assuming you are in your early 20's then?
Feb 22, 201214 yr So exciting that everyone is finding out!I don't know if this helps make decisions about coming to the open house but I went to the one in the Fall. It was VERY helpful. There was a lot of information about the application process but much of the info. would also be helpful if you're trying to decide which program to attend. There was someone from financial aide there and a tour of facilities after lunch. Also, when I first began looking into the program last year, I called and made an appointment to visit on a random Friday afternoon. If you can't make it to the open house, call Cheryl Feldner. She did a short information session with me that day and gave me a tour of the school. She is super helpful with any questions.
Feb 22, 201214 yr Author I have a friend that went to Vanderbilt for undergrad, so we went to visit him a few times then. The city is wonderful! It is a very diverse population and university (and there are so much universities in Nashville, so there is a lot of young people), and everyone is very friendly! I don't know how you feel about country music, but don't worry, everyone doesn't walk around in cowboy hats and boots. Granted, the downtown strip of bars (on Broadway and 2nd) are pretty fabulous and fun, especially if you want to see live music. The campus itself is also beautiful and very close to downtown. I'm obviously not from Nashville, so I can only give you the tourist's perspective haha. What did anyone else think if you've been there?
Feb 22, 201214 yr Those of you who heard back from FNP, were you emailed or was it a letter? I know my recommendation came back very late, so I am trying to be patient, but they told me it was being reviewed on Thursday. I just want an answer.
Feb 22, 201214 yr Mellzie22 -- I didn't get an email, just a letter in the mail yesterday. Blackbird singing -- Thanks for the input. It sounds like it will be very different from Seattle. I need to visit soon. Where is everyone thinking about living if they move there? Anyone know if it is expensive?
