:nurse: Update on New-Grad Programs for RN as far as I know:
Hospitals:
Queen's - New grad to start in Summer in Tele
Hawaii Pacific Health (Kap W&C, PM, Straub) - New grad not available to public. Must be current employee to apply.
*** I work at Straub. They will not be hiring in the med-surg. Too many RN are working here as ward clerks and aides. Plus they close off the 6th floor for a year due to renovations so many of their experienced nurses have been floating to the other med-surg units. They will not have a new-grad for awhile...
Tripler - New grad available depends on unit, inquire for more info. Long application and hiring process!
Kaiser - no new grad, direct hire. All positions posted are call-in. Part-time and Full-time available only for current employee.
Hawaii Medical Center - no new grad, direct hire. Has hired new-grad RN.
Kuakini - no new grad, direct hire.
Shriners - no new grad, direct hire. Prefers experience.
Wahiawa General - no new grad, direct hire. Prefers experience.
LTC
Rehab Pacific - new grad not available at the time.
Kulana Malama - new grad just started in June
Pearl City Nursing Home and Oahu Care Facility - new grad not available at the time.
Ann Pearl, Aloha Care, Hale Nani - new grad available, inquire for more info.
Kahala Nui - Not hiring RN. Prefers LPN.
I haven't called all the LTC so you must inquire for more info.
:D:DI hope this helps. Good luck!
I heard first priority for the new grad on 5th. The educator kept telling me there is going to be a new grad, but I heard they have been saying this since last year. I am sorry Straub is being such a dodo. Your right with the whole 6th floor being closed! I dont think the new grad will start for awhile. XX just hired me last month by opening a call-in ward clerk just for me to get my foot in the door. But I dont want to wait forever for a new-grad that may never come!
I did apply everywhere. I actually started orientation today for Kaiser as a RN. The only thing that sucks is the position is call-in. I have to wait for a part-time or full-time to open up... In the meantime I also got a offer for Tripler. I am waiting for the hiring paperwork to process now.
Good luck to you girl and hopefully I will see you at Straub when I do work. I may not be there for long though...
For the Tripler postions, I saw the job posting at USAjobs.gov. I search for "Nurse" "Hawaii". At the time back in March, there was a lot of posting for nursing assistant, practical nurse and registered nurse. I applied for all positions, by following the instructions listed on the website. I emailed my resume, cover letter and any other information they needed. You can either email, snail mail or fax your info.
I do not think they post the new-grad RN online. I got lucky to be interviewed for the new-grad when I applied as a nursing assistant. Best bet is to inquire with Tripler's HR. I do not have the number, but if you want it I can find out for you!
In addition to the hiring process, they request for RN license, BLS, Birth certificate, 3 references, 2 letter of recommendation, college transcript, and Hep B and other immunization.
So I applied in March for a job at Tripler after I passed the NCLEX. I got a interview in June. Offer 2 weeks after my interview. But I heard the paperwork may take 1-2 months. So I might not be able to start till August. Which is not bad, because I am going to be on orientation for Kaiser till August so it works out.
If you have any questions just let me know. I hope this helps!

Hello,
I'm writing because I'm looking for a staffing agency which helps NEW GRADs get a job in hospital. I'm wondering if there is such staffing agency. If anyone heard of such staffing agency, please let me know. Thank you.

Your kind of out of luck. Altres, CareResource Hawaii, and NurseFinders dont normally hire new grad RN unless they have about 6months to 1year experience. You should call the individual company to inquire.

Any helpful hints on how to find/get jobs at tripler??? I'm moving to Kailua in december and would love to work there!!
New Grad opportunities are hard to come by at Tripler.I had a friend who worked in the clinic who forward my resume to her nurse manager in February 2009, but heard no word. I talk to a Tripler recruiter who would forward my resume for pedatrics in March 2009, but heard no word. Tripler does have RN positions, but they prefer 1 year experience. I applied as an aide to just to get my foot in the door via usajobs.gov in March 2009. I got interviewed for aide and RN for the ortho/neuro/vascular floor in May 2008. The nurse manager notice I was a RN and since they had an opening for new grad RN, they interviewed me for both positions. I am not sure if the position was listed on the usajobs.gov website. I was offered the new grad RN job in June 2008. It is August and I am still waiting for the paperwork to process. Dont know when my start date will be just yet.
Check out the usajobs.gov website for civilian military nurse jobs at Tripler and the other clinics in Hawaii. Good luck.

For Kaiser...I called HR and said that New Grads can apply for "Nurse I" positions, this is considered New Grads.
Yes that is true. But Kaiser Hawaii Region Staff RN positions are not specific any more like they are in the mainland. They made a change in April 2009 and changed the HR website. The RN position no longer includes which if they are looking for Level 1, 2, 3 or 4 Nurse. I was in touch with Sean the recruiter since March 2009 in regards to new grad employment at Kaiser. He said the change is to allow any one experienced or new grad to apply for the position, offer a fair chance to the job. The job is initially posted on the internal employee website. If no prospect candidates, they place the job on the public website and allow others to apply. So you just apply for Staff RN and if the manager wants to hire a new-grad then you will get hired.
My manager at Kaiser hired me this way. It was not a specific new grad position, it was staff RN. BUt i got 6 to 8 weeks of training on day shift. She will train me evening/nights soon.

Tripler Army Medical Center is a TEACHING hospital. You don't get hired on as a RN but you will be qualified for a graduate internship which is still fulltime or parttime with benfits. I think after you complete that you wil be eligible for an RN position. Hope this helps!

Aloha xj3nnerz,
Thanks for posting this last year. Do you happen to have an update on new grad programs for 2010? I actually don't graduate until this December, but I'm just curious. I'll be applying for a 2011 new grad program. Does it look like things are improving? I left O'ahu to go to school on the mainland, but am coming back to O'ahu right after graduation.
