Unknowing how to proceed

Nurses HIPAA

Published

I have a concern with my nursing application. I have competed the TEAS V exam, now my only step is to complete the program applicaton. This issue I am having is in 2013 I successfully completed 30 day drug treatment program. I have been active in sobriety since 2013. Do I have to disclose this medical information on the nursing application ? Will I have to do so towards the BON? How will they know I have ever received treatment ? Will they look at my medical records? I have no criminal history never been arrested or anything unlawful. I'm clean on that end. Just worried and not knowing if anyone has or knows what to do. How to proceed with this. Please respond ASAP

You must answer all the questions on the application truthfully. Lying on the application (including omission of information) is illegal and, if discovered, will result in your admission and/or license being revoked.

That being said, you are only required to answer the questions asked, not extrapolate information. The application should define terms such as "medical condition" and "currently." For example, if drug addiction is defined as a medical condition, and "currently" is definied as within the past two years, and the question is: a. Do you have a medical condition which in any way impairs or limits your ability to practice your profession with reasonable skill and safety?

You may be able to accurately answer "no" to that question, as the drug use is not currently a problem, according to the definition, and does not affect your ability to practice.

Thank you !!! Thus helps a lot.
