Ok, I have quite a bit to ask.
1) I am seeing TEAS and Kaplan listed as the entrance exam which is current? I am hoping Kaplan because free lol
2) ATL gpa? Is that all classes I have taken beyond the prereqs?
3) Do they count retakes? I didn't take school seriously when I stared my biology degree, so I retook A&P I for a better grade, and my comp 1 professor was impossible. I have since taken comp 2 and made and A. I tried so hard in 1 and she couldn't be pleased. Anyway, for TC they don't, so I am going to retake comp 1 jic I don't get into UMHB.
4) what was your overall and atl upon acceptance?
5) what did you score on your entrance exam?
6) did you previously attend school there (that helps you get in and would skew your answers as I need experience of people without all those points, I still want your feedback though)
7) GI bill users (pref spouses of active duty) was the stipend enough for books, if not how much out of pocket should I expect to spend each semester?
8) did do you love UMHB?
9) if I get in, can I buy a cute stethoscope? Or Is there a certain color for the watches etc too? I have a watch with a second hand that will do for now, then can replace with waterproof later. Yes it can be sanitized.
I know there are the specific scrubs.
10) how often do books change, can I buy used books or is there benefit to buying all New?
11) Is Scott and White my only prospect of a job fresh out of school? I worked there previously, and honestly don't want to again, I am sure nursing dept is more professional that pathology, but I live next to Fort Hood and wouldn't mind working at Seaton or on post.
12) After grad how hard is it to get into an ICU, my end goal is to become a certified nurse anesthetist. I see critical is recommended, but at the very least I have a year of working before thinking about that in most cases. I believe all the DNP programs want a yr, but that is another thread.
Okay, so that about covers it? A lot of this can be asked to an advisor, but I want to hear from students/graduates. I have more questions I am sure, so hopefully I get good feedback and you guys can help me through this. I will update with my answers if I get in at the very least. Thank you so much!
Oh, and advice on how to make the highest grades on tests there.

I've applied for fall. We should know by mid april
Some of the answers to my questions while we wait. I am dying to know if I got in. I really hope a 3.4 and 85 are enough and that my essay impressed. I am hoping they choose by the 3rd like in the past once lol
1) I am seeing TEAS and Kaplan listed as the entrance exam which is current? It was TEAS for $95 Also the fall deadline is well past, but this will be applicable and most up to date.
2) ATL gpa? Is that all classes I have taken beyond the prereqs? It is all the non prereqs that are on the degree plan
they only count the highest grade
4) what was your overall and atl upon acceptance? I am at 3.4 rn but will be a 3.6 when grades transfer in, but that will be after they decide.
5) what did you score on your entrance exam? 85
More questions I asked
1. Can business and professional communication stand in for the public speaking? No, our university is very specific on what they will bring in for speech and they will only accept "Public Speaking".
2. Is cultural Anthropology useful? As a world idea or humanity type course. It's a 040 at CTC I believe I found it listed in my searches, but official advice would be great. What is the actual lettering/code for the course? For example, ANTH 040
3. I have both US history classes, and us and federal govt. I am trying to apply those in some way to my degree. We would only use one of those for the Global Issues requirement and the one of the others would be an elective.
4. Above the line GPA, is that more than prerequisite classes for the degree? On GPA I have a lot more courses than needed for UMHB over all counts all of those in overall GPA correct? We only look at two different GPA's. One would be over the core prerequisites and those include both English Composition courses, the 4 science courses, general and developmental psychology, intro to sociology and public speaking. Those courses alone have to be above 3.0. The second GPA is overall but we only consider courses toward our degree plan.
5. For the nursing department, I have a retake, do you guys count the original, avg of the two, or just the replacement? We will only consider the highest grade.
Im not sure about some of your questions since I am applying just like you. However, I took the TEAS at TC and paid $65. They sealed my results. In a envelope and I took it to UMHB myself. I have a 3.5 Gpa and scored 92 on my Teas. I think we have a good chance getting in due to it being non competitive.
I wish I would have actually put in some study time. Over all I am not mad at my score because it had great percentile ranks, so I know I did well, but I know I could have done more, but whatever. The tests in the area sold out, I had to go out of town. We made a weekend of it, so it worked out for us, but only $65 would have been nice.
I think we are fine. Now we just wait and hope we know next week.

I'm sure you got your answer
Overall GPA
I'm unsure one this one.
4) what was your overall and atl upon acceptance? Overall was a 4.0.

I did attend school there. Many people who didn't attend were also accepted.

Unsure, as I haven't graduated.
-Read the assigned readings. Know your text inside and out. Ask questions. Go in to each class PREPARED. Challenge your instructors, in the end, they want you to soak up their knowledge
I'm currently in my 4th semester. I have a previous degree in Biology. I am apart of the academic triumph team that offers help to those in semesters behind me. Good luck and I hope you guys get in!
I have a question about the scoring for TEAS. Do they calculate your overall score based off all 4 parts or just the reading and math? I was so confused over this?
Got the email about 4 pm today, I am in!!
Becca it looked to me as though the overall was all 4 parts, and then you could go and see % rank etc on each individual section. I think UMHB just has a minimum for those two because you could potentially bomb one whole section and still get a 60% overall. So they don't want you getting a 35 on math and a 100 on reading. They also scale it though by how hard the test was, so idk the scoring seems kind of complicated, and I would have to actually be told exactly how they do it, not just given the general idea to be able to explain it.
I have complete 1302 before may 8th and ask for an re eval. í ½í¸ž
Do you go to CTC? If so take Peeterse online. She is a really fair grader and allows for style, which is the reason I had to retake 1301. The professor wanted the papers written in her exact style and tone and she prided herself on no one getting an A in her class. That is the only prereq you are missing? So were you flat out denied then? Seems like they would tentatively accept if you got that done. Especially since your scores and GPA were better than mine. They act like there is a wait list, but if they will reevaluate (and probably let you in) I am guessing the it is competative line is just a line. I really don't see why they made that choice. Well, def take her and then get the eval and I bet you will be in. Let me know. I am invested in your outcome in this.
Im at TC. Im already taking the course. I think because its one of the courses we need before admission. I have to pass it and submit the grade and ask for a reeval.
