UAFS Program

Hi there! I am currently a student of the ADN program at UAFS. I am sorry to inform you but the way the program is set up at UAFS you must obtain your ADN (even if you have a bachelors in another field) before you can advance to the BSN program. That being said, the program here is wonderful. The instructors are hard, but they care more about your success than you can imagine. If you are really interested in pursuing this please private message me or simply post again. I am going into my third semester in the Nursing program. I would love to give you any answers I can or point you in the right direction. :)

I don't know where to begin... I've been by campus and had my transripts audited. I have to re-take AP I & II and take Microbiology. Do you know if these are offered in the summer? I was wanting to possibly enroll in one of these in the evening this semester (next week!) However, I really feel that I need to shadow a nurse to see if I like it before I invest in coursework. The material is interesting to me, but if I don't like clinical work, I more than likely won't enjoy my job. (I learned this the hard way in my undergrad work.) I plan to call St. Edwards this week to see if this is possible... not sure with the new privacy acts!!! Maybe at least I could get a tour? What would you recommend?

What has been the toughest part for you so far? Do the Dr.s treat the nurses with respect? I worry about this being true or being a stereotype that I have. (I don't tolerate disrespect in my classroom or elsewhere. I have only been in the hospital once (to have a baby), so my knowledge is very limited.

How many students are accepted each year/term into the nursing program? How competitive is admission... how many apply vs. how many get in? I have a 3.5+ undergrad overall GPA, but a couple of my sciences are low ©... Chem II, Physics, Biology. I know that not all of these courses are required for the UAFS program, so will they count only the necessary ones or do they include ALL science courses?

I am a graduate of that program. I have found that (at least the last time I read anything about pass/fail rates) the pass rate is exceptional in comparison. I was a Dec 1992 grad, so the instructors have come and gone..... but they were tough. I am grateful for my experience as an LPN, it has served me well.

Thank you so much for replying:loveya: Did you have to take the TEAS test before entrance?(that is the case now if it wasnt in 1992) Did you take any classes prior to trying for the program? Did you get in on your first try? I am taking A&P right now, barely holding on to my "A" in that class(for the most quality points) Is there any other info or advice that you might be able to give me?? THANK U:D

I took the required ADN pre-reqs prior to my LPN program, as that was my eventual plan anyway (to get ADN later). The TEAS was not required at the time, just the placement test (I think it is now called the COMPASS test). I had good SAT scores (I was 17 y/o) and good college placement scores. I got into the program on the first try. The only LPN pre-req at the time was Basic Anatomy and Physiology. I do not know how competative the program is now, but we had a pretty diverse group age-wise. However, we graduated less than half of those who were accepted. I do not know how to improve chances of getting in, but if you do get accepted I do have some tips. The key for me was getting into a good study group and volunteering for any and all available skills to check off on. Ask the nurses if you can do anything for them such as foleys, peg tubes, injections, etc. My LPN program is the foundation for all that I have done to this point. This is where I learned most all of my basics. At that time, once the program was underway and we had started clinical, lecture was on Monday, pts were assigned on our floor on Monday afternoon. Clinical was 8 to 4 on Tues, Wed, Thurs, and test on Fridays. Good luck and God bless!
