Typical Admission's Interview Questions

I had mine this week:

Here is what they asked me:

What type of qualities do you possess that would make you a good nurse?

Describe a situation where you showed compassion and sympathy for another individual.

Describe a situation where you were on a tight deadline and how did you handle it.

What is your worst characteristic?

What is your best quality?

Is there any characteristic you would change, have you tried changing it?

What do you think a nurse does?

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

So my interview went GREAT! I had to go in 30 minutes before my interview in which I found out I had to fill out an interview sheet that had all the questions in it. A few of the questions was:

-Why do I feel nursing is for me?

-What experiences do I have that would contribute to nursing?

-Scenarios about how I handle stress

>I was 20 min late to clinicals and the instructor sent me home

>I was caught cheating and recommended for termination from the program

>I received a lower grade than my classmate next to me who I was aware was cheating from me

Then when actually met with the Director, all she asked me was "Why do I choose to go into Nursing?" then we went over my transcripts and she talked for 20 minutes giving me an overview about the progpram and what I should be aware of. She was really nice and toward the end, she basically told me I should be receiving an acceptance letter in the mail. I'm totally excited, my orientation is on the 22nd and she told me we'd be getting homework that day to read 5 chapters before the first day of class on the 27th. Back to school mode :)

oh wow. I'm a little nervous about my interview thats actually coming up on the 18th. I'm going through BOCES and what I heard was that it's not actually a face to face interview. Any help or suggestions being that you have basically made it in

That's kind of an advantage that it's not a face to face interview, but I think you should still prepare yourself for any questions and just write it out & reheorifice it so even though the answers could be right in front of you, you don't sound scripted. & also prepare yourself for any scenario questions your interviewer might have. You'll want to sound upbeat & don't be too nervous because it can show in your voice. Just relax and it may be easier than you may think, if you're able to find someone who's going to the school you applied at, that could give you pointers about their interview process it will help. where was your admission interview?

My interview was face-to-face with 3 administrators from the school. It lasted less than 10 minutes, and I'm pretty sure I sounded like a bumbling fool.. but apparently my answers were good enough to grant me a spot in the program!

Some of the questions I got:

- Tell us about yourself.. not just why you want to be a nurse, but about you, your family, hobbies, etc.

- What would you do if you discovered a classmates was taking drugs?

- What would you do if a classmate was perpetually late to class?

- What's your worst personality trait?

- Brag on yourself a bit. Tell us your best qualities.

One of the questions they asked was, "What are some of your strengths, and also, everyone has some weaknesses, we'd like to know some of those as well?" Another was how I might change my life to succeed in the program, like what steps I might take to make sure I graduate. Those are the two I remember the most. Hope this helps ^-^

I am going through the ONC BOCES program, and my interview was face to face with the program coordinator who has a masters in nursing as an RN. She was really nice though!
