TWU Houston Spring 2017

Thread for TWU Houston applicants

Hello everyone,

Today I schedule an advising appointment with TWU nursing coordinator Ms.Lewis.

I have few information to share.

TWU no longer uses the the prerequisite GPA for admission into their nursing program. TWU now goes by the nursing core GPA.

The courses that include the nursing core GPA are:

  • Anatomy & Physiology 1 w/lab
  • Anatomy & Physiology 2 w/lab
  • Microbiology w/lab
  • Chemistry w/lab
  • Developmental Psychology (lifespan)
  • Math Elementary Statistics
  • Introduction to Nutrition

If one retakes any of these courses, it must be done before the deadline of August 15 for Spring 2017 admission. (She also stated that TWU recommends A's and B's within the nursing core GPA rather than C's)

My stats

Nursing Core: 3.56

Teas Exam: 82.7

I may retake lifespan to replace the B and aim for an A to increase my nursing core GPA.

Also, you will only send your transcripts to TWU and not to NURSING CAS.

If you retake a course, then you will send your updated transcript again to TWU.

Teas Exam Info: A student can take the teas exam multiple times now. However, they will only take the recent score. (Ex: If you take the teas in February and you take it again in June. TWU will use your teas score from June.) All sections must be higher than a 64%.

    Hi! omg thank you so much for your helpful updated information! You're amazing for this and I hope to be your classmate in Spring 2017. However I am still unclear on some stuff, are you saying that they will not use other prerew classes besides the ones you listed to be included in the gpa? classes like govt, english, algebra, humanities etc. I have good grades for all those classes you listed except micro. I got a c in micro last semester therefore I am retaking it right now and I will be sure to get a better grade than a c. Last time I went to there information session was last semester but looks like they changed a lot within the time and I need to go again :/

    Your welcome. Likewise! They use to look at the Prerequisite GPA that included Government, English, and so on.

    Now they will only look at the GPA that falls under the nursing core GPA.

    Yes, most definitely!

    I had an advising appointment with Ms.Lewis from TWU Houston. If my Teas score was in the 90's, I would have not retook PSYC DEVELOPMENTAL..... She stated that I was competitive, but I didn't want to take my chances. Your TEAS SCORE makes up for your GPA, which isn't bad at all! I am glad that I have a couple of you guys replying to this post because not many applicants from TWU HOUSTON use this website.

    I applied to Houston as well with the following stats:

    3.6 Nursing core GPA

    88.7% TEAS

    Post-bacc from Texas A&M

    I have mostly all A's in the nursing core GPA classes except for one B and one C.

    What do you think of my chances of getting in here?

    We will get our acceptance letter through the email we used to create NursingCAS.
