Hello, I am looking for some advice. I will be done with my BSN in May 2014 and am looking to apply to NP programs. My ADN gpa is 2.53, and my BSN gpa for the last 39 credits is 3.97, this makes my current combo gpa 2.955 with 13 credits to go. I have been able to achieve A's this far and believe I will continue to do so in my last semester. Furthermore, I have great references, and I have experience in longterm care, SICU, and the ETC. I have also been able to get the dean of my BSN program to give me a reference. What are the chances I will get a shot at a program? I am hoping that my BSN, with a gpa of over 3.90, will show a recommitment to education and will be sufficient to get me in. Any thoughts on the matter would be great.

Sounds like you have a good chance in general based on your stats. Your BSN grades could outweigh your less than stellar ADN performance. However, if you specify a school and a program of interest, other posters who went through the experience could probably offer some advice.

they way they calculate GPA is based on a point system, not really a 15 A's divided by 4.0 = GPA...GU calculated me at 2.99 but Simmons said my overall was 3.5 so go figure...I got into Simmons College but denied GU...University of Cincinnati said I was 3.03. I too did not have a great ADN but my BSN was all A's except Statistics I got a C. My only condition on my acceptance at Simmons is to take an online self paced Stats class and pass the final exam before starting classes. Each school is different. If you have great references (I had two MD's and an FNP), and a great personal goal essay you may be given provisional acceptance from a school like i did. I'm happy with Simmons and really think more people should check out their program...they have been inundated with apps lately as word gets about about them. Their on-campus program has had 100% pass rate the past 5 yrs so even though the online program is new as of Oct 2013, I expect the same pass rate. Also their course structure and online system is the exact same as Georgetown's. GU was the ones who referred me to them upon my denial stating that i met all other admissions requirements just find but not the overall GPA. =)

What area do you live in? Perhaps start with schools within driving distance of you?
I sent out one application early; I sent this to Creighton University. They seemed very interested in email conversation. Creighton has a new dual program that gives you a FP/Acute care np in the same time as a regular program. My plan was to hold my other apps until I find out about Creighton. If I get denied, I would send the rest after march when my total gpa is over 3.0 between both of my programs. I am just hoping they see my recommitment to education.
How does that work? I guess you do 1,000+ hours of clinical yes?
I am not sure yet, I wan't going to worry about that until I got accepted.
