Triage Abuse!!!!

I am sooooo tired of the ob offices sending pts to triage that have called them during office hours...so they could be seen there....and sending them over for routine things that they could handle at the office. We have 1 group that is worse than the others. Then we get slammed and have less nurses for our labor patients. I understand sending them to triage when the office is closed...but this crazy.

If this is truly a case of abuse, it's time to bring this up to your manager.Make sure, also the shift reports reflect these numbers in your acuity/nurse areas. It may be time to beef up staffing to accomodate these, but you will need the NUMBERS to back this up.

Good luck. I know what you mean, we have a couple docs that like to do the same thing. It's everywhere.

I only work nights so this isn't my main problem. My problem is that pt's call the doc on call, the doc tells them this isn't urgent and it can be handled in the office in the AM, well they come to triage anyway! They then get admitted, sit for sometimes hours before they can be seen by the MD or CNM because it isn't an emergency, take up my time and one of my triage beds so they can be sent home!

Sorry, little rant, I have worked traige a lot lately and I am getting burned out!
