Transferring Liscense

Nurses General Nursing

Ok, so I just graduated in May in WI and have to take my NCLEX in a couple weeks (Cringe)... so scared...anyways... but I want to move to another state after getting my license (but the state I want to move to isan't in the nursing compact.. .the 13 states)... how do I go about transferring the license from Wi to say NJ or FL ??

Thanks...

And if you have any tips on NCLEX??

You could have applied to take the exam for the state to where you're moving.

You live in Wisconsin, but you could ask that you take the NCLEX and have it for Texas, or wherever you're moving to.

Even if the state were a compact state if you're moving there you need to have the license there. The license needs to be in the state of your residence.

Still, if you get a Wisconsin license you can ask to have an endorsement in the new state through their BON.

As for tips. Study, take the practice quizzes in the NCLEX prep book you have, and try not to stress over it too much (yeah, right).

Good luck!

Call the nursing boards for information of the fee and requirements of the state that you are interested in. Go to the internet and put the sate , then nursing boards, etc.

. Ex. Oregon requires a 960 hours of nursing hours , so I guess they want some nursing experience .....others only requires endorsement of your license. Hope this helps.:smokin:

Oh sorry I forgot about the test-----what helped aside form me reviewing on my own was that I paid some money to attend those review classes-----------mine was very helpful , and a lot of our studies came out in the exam!

You would probably have to get with that state's board of nursing that you are trying to transfer to and check to see what it is that you need to submit in order to get endorsed into that state. I just passed NCLEX a couple weeks ago and had to do the same thing. All I had to do was fill out an application with a $55 application fee, with copy of RN license from the original state that I took the NCLEX in, pay $52.20 for fingerprinting and criminal background check, also have get a verification of original license from my original state, which will cost me another $25. I'm still waiting to do the last thing, but I did get a temporary permit to work until 6 months to give me time to get my actual license in that state.

It could be different in other states, but hope that helps.

Thanks everyone that really helps!!
