Transfer techniques refresher for RN return to patient care

Would any of you recommend a website where I can freshen my skills for transferring patients from chair to bed, from bed to commode, etc.?

I will be assisting a 79 year old gentleman who suffers with Altzheimer's. He needs help with all activities of daily living. I am concerned about safety, both his and mine!

I work in a hospital based neuro rehab unit, and transfer patients all day long.

Lots of them are dense hemiplegics, or have severe parkinson's... the thing that helps me the most is use of a gait belt... I find that I can transfer the patients and save my back by using a snug gait belt for a secure hold on the patient...

Excellent topic for a nursing forum!!!!

I am so glad I paid attention to body mechanics when I was taught it during the RPN/LPN course so many years ago.

One suggestions I would make would be to try and contact the local college/university to see if they offer any workshops for nurses on body mechanics and lifting.
