Transdermal patches

Hey! So maybe someone can refresh my memory. I can't seem to find any rational online for this... when applying a patch for example a Fentynal patch.. why is it that when you write your date, initials and time you want to put it on the side and not dead center of the medication patch. Hopefully someone can provide good rational.. thanks!! :)

I would imagine it's because the adhesive is on the edge and the impregnated medication is in the middle and you don't want to pierce it with your pen and give the patient a large dose of the med.
