Hello everbody, im new to the forum.

Im a registered adult nurse in the uk. Ive been qualified nearly six years and currently working in theatres (OR). I completed my nursing course in scotland DIP HE in Adult Nursing (last of project2000) in march 1999. The problem is my college are insisting they do not have any copy of my academic transcripts. So the californian state board cannot issue me a att (authority to test for the nclex) because they need to recieve and evaluate them. As i trained in scotland ive contacted the Scotish board of Nursing they dont keep them. The UKCC (The N.M.C.) They say they cannot provide them as a qualified after 1997. My college merged with a university while i was training so Ive contacted them guess what they dont have them either. as you could imagine im now at a loss as what to do. Has anybody been in a similar situation or has any helpfull advice i would be greatfull to hear from them. I hope I do not need to do my training again at a college that can provide me with such a simple thing like transcripts.

I nearly had the same problem as you as I trained in 1988 as EN and converted to RN in 1998 my EN training was done by my hospital where as my RN was done by the University, When I got in touch with my university last year they told me that they no longer keep the transcripts from the school of nursings that they took over and that everything was sent to NMC. Have you tried your university as I am sure from what I gathered from my university is that they are only keeping the transcripts from their students... if they took over your training during your course they should have the transcripts. I would also have a word with the NMC again and see if there is anything they can do to confirm that you met the requirements to be a adult RN.....

I would also check that you met the requirments of x amount of hours in mental health, maternity and community... as I found that is a requirement for usa.

hope this helps

Hi Anna

Thank you for your reply, I have the requiered amount of hours in those fields as my college filled in the breakdown of educational hours form. The problem is every institute I contact deny keeping my transcripts. The university, the college of nursing, the scothish board of nursing and the nmc. They all say contact your school of nursing, the school of nursing replies that they do not keep them as they do not have to. I was hoping that there might be a law which requires schools to keep them. The N.M.C. role is to ensure students meet the required standards to be fit to practice, how can they do this if the cant demonstrate that I have had sufficient training. thanks again for your reply.

i happen to have a copy of my transcripts and all it shows is a break down of my hours and signed by my tutor. I was fortunate that my university had a copy of both my transcripts but they did tell me that my EN transcripts had been sent to NMC because they did not have enough storage for both the university transcripts and the transcripts they recieved from the various schools of nursing when training was transferred.

I hope you are able to get this sorted.
