Took the 1st step....

A little background. 24 male. I currently work in rural South GA in IT. There is some room for growth in this field here, but it will be slow on the advancement and the pay raises.

I have interest in becoming and CRNA in due time. In the mean time I have to get RN, BSN and some critical care experience. I won't be able to continue working at my current job and take nursing classes so I have been looking around for something to allow me to get back to school full time. I have decided to get a CNA over the course of 2 quarters @ a tech school in hopes that I can land a job in the evenings/weekends and attend nursing classes during the day.

Well I just completed the online application to the local tech school for their CNA prep program. The class is 4 classes, 3 of which can be done on line. If accepted I plan to start with 2 online classes while I remain at my current Job (in IT) for the summer quarter. Then, for fall I'll take the remaining 2 courses and clinicals to become a CNA.

After that I plan to start nursing prereq's in the Spring '09...

 I just hope I can handle the change...

The nice thing about working as a CNA is that you have the ability to really view the world of healthcare from a unique perspective. I entered into healthcare thinking of becoming a nurse, but after seeing and experiencing what I have, I quickly changed my mind. I love my job as a nursing assistant. It's hard and challenging work, both physically and mentally, but it's so worth it in the end. I love my contact with patients. I have the chance to make them more comfortable during their most vulnerable time. That's not something I want to give up. Good luck. It's an amazing time. :wink2:

Welp, an update, I registered for classes today. I'm taking 3 of the 4 classes required online this quarter while staying @ my current job. By the end of Sept. I will be looking for another job, b/c in Oct. Fall quarter begins and the actual CNA training class starts and the schedule will not allow me to continue working where I work now. I have the option of working w/ my mother-n-law in seasonal peanuts, but that might only last till the end of Nov...

I have applied at a couple of places for piece meal work until then so we'll see.

I view this as a test set infront of me to try my will. I will work as hard as I can to over come this and move into Nursing school next Spring.

Up first will be Medical Term., Nutrition/Diet Therapy, and Interpersonal Relationships/Professional Development.
