TN Visa Documentation- need help stat!

Published

Hello,

I am a Canadian RN and currently live and work in Ontario. I was just offered a job in Michigan today and must move there in the next two weeks before orientation starts. I have been trying to find out exactly which documents I need to present at the border in order to get my TN or I-94 or whatever it is work permit I need. Everything on the web is very confusing and there's no real official site outlining all of this. I even bought and downloaded this application kit for $60 and it's all just general information and doesn't actually tell me what I need to bring. I know I need a letter from my employer, my nursing licenses for ON and MI, passport and probably other identification, and my nursing school diploma. Do I need official transcripts from university? What about my high school diploma and/or transcripts? Do I need anything else? Any information from someone who has done this or knows anything about it would be very very helpful! :)

I don't know if this helps but I had to set a date & wrote my NCLEX. Then I had to go the CGFNS website and download all the forms, mail them off to the school, the nursing school, each nursing licensing authority I belonged to--pay the appropriate fees. Then go to the border with the VISA SCREEN certificate that I bought from CGFNS/Homeland Security once you finally obtain it, with the letter of employment offer, my nursing license from the State of Michigan, my $ for application, and show the border officials. Then you get your TN VISA! Simple (not) No red tape involved (NOT) Fast (Definitely NOT). Good Luck tho! It's obtainable but a big pain in the butt ;) The VISA SCREEN lasts 5 yrs tho but is expensive.

For TN you also require visa screen certificate as mentioned in the post above and that will certainly take longer than 2 weeks although you can pay extra to expediate it and I am not sure if it will be done in 2 weeks.

I already have written the NCLEX and gotten my visascreen. Forgot to include that in there that I need to bring the visascreen too. I'll probably just bring everything I can think of just in case. I don't want to get denied and have to try again when I don't have very much time. Thanks! :)
