Thinking about giving Oregon a try...

Hello,

My husband and I are both nurses, he's an RN and I'm an LPN looking to go back to school. None the less we currently live in PA where the jobs are in short supply and are looking to move. Ive been doing some research and am considering Oregon as a possibility, specicically Portland. Im looking for any information about the city and jobs in the area. Any info would be much appreciated :)

    Not a lot of jobs since we have quite a few local colleges that graduate classes all throughout the year. Most hospitals are magnet or trying for magnet status, so they require a BSN at least. It is a tough job market here with a higher cost of living-- so I would advise moving only when you have secured jobs. And look into the areas (including rural) around Portland for more jobs, with some decreases in pay.

    In the Portland amd surrounding areas there are a few hospitals there is

    OHSU + childrens hospital

    Legacy health - has 6 hospitals + childrens hospital

    Providence - 6 hospitals in the area

    Portland Adventist - little community hospital

    Kaiser - 2 hospitals

    What one has to consider is there are also 7 nursing schools in the area pumping out new grads all the time and hospitals can be very picky.

    Does your husband have his BSN? and acute care experience? that would be the ticket into a hospital if that is what he is looking for.

    The hospital have all but eliminated any LPN positions.

    But there are plenty of LTC/SNF, LTAC, HH companies out there, as the previous poster said I wouldnt move unless you had jobs secured
