Theft case please help

I need help fast!!

Earlier this year in March, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time and I got arrested for shoplifting. I was able to get a good lawyer who told me to plead no contest to the charge of class C misdemeanor theft. I was granted a deferred disposition, given 3 months probation provided I don't get into any trouble within those 3 months then the case will be dismissed and will be eligible for expungment in 2 years.

Before all this happened, I had been planning to gain admission into PVAMU Nursing spring 15', I don't have a clue or understand the process regarding a declaratory order, what it actually is or how to plead my case to the BON. Do I have to explain my case to PVAMU AND the BON? I'm just really lost and upset, I have never been in trouble with the law in my life! Does anyone know of a situation like this? Can someone help me out on this? serious answers only please!!

Call you state BON asap and ask If you are eligible to start nursing school.I am sure you will have to fill bunch of forms and fees but they will accept you I am sure. You need to contact your school as well to see If they will let you in.The real kicker I think is getting clinicals to accept you but then expungment might help by then.I will probably ask my school to see whats up.Other options is to go to school part time so you can delay until expungment happen and then start clinics or do something else in medical then come back to nurisng two years from now.

Only your school and your state BON can tell you if this is going to matter in your application process.

If you have any questions about how to fill out the application for nursing school or in dealing with the BON. contact a lawyer as we can't give you legal advice per our TOS.

FYI, many employers consider a "no contest" plea to be the same as a "guilty" plea...this includes nursing schools, at least my nursing school, as our DON explained to us what "no contest" meant to them on the first day of orientation. I think her exact words about a no contest plea were, "essentially, you're guilty but there's no way you're saying it."

Hence why you may need that lawyer to assist you in the application prcess.

Best of luck.
