The Nutty Professor =[

I am in AP2.

The way our school does AP 1 & 2 is they split the Tortora textbook in half. So it's not like we covered all the systems already & are now taking it further, we are straight up learning new material.

We are currently *supposed* to be learning the endocrine system.

Ha.

I've learned more about my professors political beliefs, hatred for GWB, agony for working at a community college (we have one of the best allied health programs in the STATE!!!) etc.

He is out of his mind. I'm not learning anything.

The syllabus he handed out is some generic department one with no course schedule. He said he tests when he thinks we are ready. There is NO rhyme or reason. It's all a blur of material. His "notes" are like paragraphs of streams of though with some textbook information.

No outline, no course/chapter objectives.

It is too "late" to switch to another section. I say that because my irish-italian temper will change that very quickly. I want a good education.

I don't want to start nursing school with little knowledge on this material.

What would you do? There is an online section open and the department head happens to be the professor, should I beg & plead?

Should I go have a face-to-face with this nut?

Should I suck it up and memorize the textbook & his "notes?"

If you feel like you are not learning anything from him or he is too unstructured for your likes then I would switch to the online version if I could. If it is still open,you should be allowed to still switch and register (at my school you can register through the end of the first week of classes). If you need a permit you can simply say that your learning style is different from his teaching style or something along those lines.

IMHO, A&P is absolutely something you need a good solid foundation in. As my A&P prof put it years ago, "You have to understand normal so that when you see abnormal it sticks out like a sore thumb". It sounds like if you stayed in this class you would essentially be teaching yourself anyway, so the online class should not be much different for you.

Go see the dean. Better yet, ask the "customer service" person at the college who you should see with a concern about a professor. They are usually in the know about who could impact concern like that. You paid your hard earned money to learn and you should not be harrangued with someone else's views when a&p is what you should be learning. Hope you get some support from the college!!!! Good luck.
