Test anxiety

I've been an LVN for 8 years, had mild anxiety then BUT it's extremely bad this time around. When I take tests I can't even remember my name it's horrible. Been to the Dr for meds which aren't helping me remember what I know for my tests. I seriously just want to stay home no desire to work even though I am. Lecture and clinical days are fine if they are organized and on task!! Test days are another story. Suggestions please FAST!! I'm debating dropping out BC it's so bad and embarrassing to say the least!!!

There are quite a few strategies out there to help with anxiety during tests. Best place to start would be your school's counseling services.

One simple one, if you have a lot of intrusive thoughts that swirl around, do a mental (silent!) shout at yourself: STOP! Then get out the card you prepared ahead of time, and read the comments to yourself. Write positive things: I know this material. I understand these questions. I can do this. I am good at nursing.

If your instructor doesn't allow note cards, meet with him/her privately ahead of time; explain the problem, show the card so they know you aren't cheating. If you can't use the card, practice repeating those things to yourself; STOP! I can do this! I know this. Deep breaths (in -2-3-4- out-2-3-4), x 3, then go back to the test question.
