The tele techs on my floor are responsible for monitoring and recording telemetry on each patient every two hours. This includes the rate, rhythm, and any ectopy that occurs. They also set up tele boxes for new admits, put leads back on when they come off, replace the batteries, etc. Their most important job is to alert the nurse of any red alarms (ie VTach, asystole). I hope this helps!

A tele tech is someone who monitors heart rates and heart rhythms and is trained at performing EKGs. Most likely you will not need anything but a high school diploma. Your institute should train you and you will have supervision under an experienced tech. I was one for 3 years before becoming a cardiac nurse.:)

thanks to the both of you!!! that helped alot

I was a telemetry tech for 2 years. My *** got big just sitting on that damn computer chair all night. Not only that, I needed SCD's on my legs to keep them circulating

Yeah, being a monitor tech is cool. You do get plenty of reading. I've read dozens of school books waiting for a R-on-T to occur.

Of course, you have to deal with the jealous nurses who ran around like chickens without heads :uhoh3: while you sat there getting a tan from that monitor.
