SWIC Summer '18

Published

Hello Everyone! I've seen previous posts discussing the Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) nursing program for the past couple of years and I though I'd start up a fresh discussion board for the applicants of Summer 2018. I just completed my application and I'm hoping to get in with 18 points. I'm curious to know as to where everyone else is in their application process and if anyone has any more information on the upcoming months when the acceptance letters get sent out. Thanks!

Hi there! I was accepted last year. Last year's cut off was 16.5 points, so you should be good to go. Acceptance letters were sent out middle of April.

You're welcome! Happy to answer any other questions.

Hey! Last year the letters were delivered on April 13th. I had 16 points and missed it by a half a darn point!! But I'm glad I did because at the time I didn't know it.. but I was finally expecting! :) This year I am locked in at 18 points. April can get here annnnny time.

@ Chikki_Noodle Hmm..I'm trying to think of some other questions that I haven't seen yet in some of the other posts. What was orientation like? What all goes on during the summer after acceptance? I heard you have to take like a calculations class or something. If so, what was that class like? Oh and what is the female/male ratio in your classes. I wouldn't care if there were only two guys in the program; I am just a little curious.

@ Sybrina99 That must have been really frustrating at first to find out you only missed getting in by half of a point! It sounds like it all worked out in your favor though. Congrats on your baby and your points! I agree, I'm ready for it to be April!

I just took the DET today and got zero on the English and 4 on the Math, which brings me to 17 points! I hope I get in! Fingers crossed :)

Good luck you guys!

@ Beanie Babie Yeah I was surprised how much easier the math was compared to the english. I thought the graphs were the worst part. Usually those are the easier ones on these kinds of test, but they were really hard for me to read. If someone only needs a 4 on the DET to get accepted, I would just tell them to study the math really good from the studyguide and you're solid. Also, 17 is a pretty good number, but anything under I'd be pretty nervous.

I just took my DET last Friday and ended up with 4 on the math and 2 on the English for a total of 20 points. That English portion was completely ridiculous! Fingers crossed for everyone!

I had 15 points last year. I have 18, maybe 19 points this year, depending on a couple of old English classes. I'm hoping that I can get in this year! Any one that still needs to take the test, I recommend you skip to the math first!

I applied for the summer 18' program as well. Hopefully I get accepted I have a total of 18 points. The English portion of the DET really got me. I got 0 points for that section and 4 on the math. Fingers crossed
