Surgical Clearance

Hello,

Sorry if this question has been asked before. I'm a new NP working in New Jersey.

Are NPs in NJ allowed to do preop exams and sign off/give surgical clearance ?

Thank you!

I'm not positive but I think that's going to be a question specific to the organization you're working for. In my hospital, the hospital medicine group does the pre-op risk stratifications and I think NPs are allowed to do so. However, in my ICU, we do not do risk stratifications for surgery so as a NP in my role I am not allowed to. If you're in an outpatient setting, you would have to ask your collaborating physician about that I would think.
