Hey guys, i am doing a paper for school, and there is a question we have to answer that I am unsure of the answer. The question is: List two reasons for using full length side rails, and safety belts when transporting the patient on a stretcher.
I know one reason would be to prevent falls, but what would a second be?
Thanks in advance, Katie

Prevention of injury
Keep the body in alignment.... just two that come to mind :)

Also, I would think to make the patient feel safe. I could imagine that if I were on a stretcher with no side rails I would feel like I was going to fall out.

Not sure what kind of answer you're looking for. This goes along with preventing falls- but this is part of what we do for patients on seizure precautions

I was thinking maybe the questionwas- why is the surgical pt at increased risk for falling off a stretcher? ex- preop sedation/ post op still metabolizing out anesthetics, post op narcs??
