Suny downstate accelerated program 2015-2016

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Just thought that I'd start a thread for people applying to the Downstate accelerated program starting in June 2015. Has anyone else applied? I just submitted my application!

I have not applied yet, but will be this month! Is anyone else attending the open house on 10/21?

Did you attend the open house last week? How was it?

I applied and just waiting for my recommendations! And finishing up my last 2 prerequisites. How did you do on the teas v?

I attended the open house. It was just general info that you can find on the website. They did tell me to email them my transcript for evaluation.

Im taking my teas next week .. So nervous! :( They want at least a 75%

I went to an earlier open house and had a million questions so I found it easier to ask them in person.

i took my teas but did not do so great... It was not an easy test I'm thinking about taking it again... I got like and 87 on math and reading... I could do better if I study... My average of prereqs is pretty good at 3.90 so I'm hoping I get in... Do you guys think I should retake it?

I'm a current student in the 2014-2015 class. This site has been quite resourceful during my admissions process and Just thought I could give back as time allows as my schedule seems pretty hectic at the moment.

@mmrox92 87 is pretty solid, although many people in the program have scored well above 90s on it. Students from previous years scored lower and I would say to not stress too much about the TEAS unless you're a terrible standardized test taker. I used the TEAS book and two of the ati online practice TEAS exams. A 3.9 definitely puts you in a competitive range but I have a feeling the rec letters or background is a huge contributor.

Admissions in the school get pampered with tons of questions and emails so don't be surprised if your emails are never answered within weeks. It is better to complete the application now rather than rush right before the deadline so you can address any needs or so the admissions department can reach you regarding the status of your sent transcripts, etc. Admissions won't cater to you really so you'll have to push the envelope a bit. I handed my application in about a week and a half before the deadline and got notice of acceptance in March. I am not sure what the deadline is for you guys but for my class it was in January. In my opinion, The earlier the submission the better, but some who have applied early were either waitlisted or did not get in.

I have a couple family members who are nurses in an area hospital which works with downstate... They found me some of their colleagues who know about the program and they said also not to focus so much on the teas score as long as it's above what they asked for... I'm also hoping having some family members in the medical field helps my application a bit...

Yea I've submitted my application. I'm taking the teas next week and I'm super nervous about the math. I guess it helps to know it's not that weighted? I got the practice book. Another thing I'm curious about is I'm taking 5 prereqs. And just started working in a healthcare related job so this won't adversely affect me will it ?

I don't know how weighted it is for sure... And as long as u only have one science and 2 non science left for spring semester your application can go through. I am taking 2 sciences this semester so my application won't be processed until I finish

I have 2 sciences to complete in the spring and I'm in 3 classes right now.

Then I don't think you can apply this year... Email them and ask... I think one science is the limit in spring...
