Studying for a 12-Month ABSN Program

Hi all, I usually do not post on any forums but I thought I'd ask. Can any of you all let me know what study strategies got you through the 12 month program. It's a lot of content and I already feel behind. My school uses ATI and the Pearson books. Just to give a reference on the ATI head, neck, and neuro module, I've spent 10 hours and still working on it.. thats not normal I am not sure why I am being this slow? Also, my patho and pharm professor is saying that we would need to read the text but I am not sure how to get through that much reading? Its both patho and pharm. Again, much appreciated as I am trying to navigate this.

I did a 16 mo ABSN program and it was hard.  Frankly, I don't know how anyone can get through a 12 mo ABSN program.  My school used to offer a 13 mo program and I talked to some of those students - they said it was like drinking through a fire hose.  Pretty much all they did was study.

You could try talking to some professors and your advisor.  Also ask other students how they are coping.  Many people benefit from study groups.

If you have to do the reading, then you have to do it.  A study group can help with this - have different students read different sections, then share notes.  If there are study guides as supplemental books for the text, then those can also be helpful.

Good luck.

Sit down and schedule each day out. It sounds silly at first but has helped tremendously! Sit down and write when you're going to study, eat, sleep, shower, etc. Then you can see where your time is being spent and where you have free time for studying, self care, etc. you got this!
