Study time for NLN exam

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi All,

I am new to allnurses.com (just started today). Does anyone know the amount of time one should study for the NLN exam. I am NOT a math person by any means. If I start now I have a full month to study? Is that enough time? :uhoh3:

Hi - I'm new here and just signed up today as well. I would imagine the study time would be different for each person depending on your background, time out of school, etc. This is a second career for me and I've been out of school for over 10 years. I studied for 10 days and received a score of 131, 91 AD composite. Math was my strongest point, I just needed a refresher on that part. The kicker for me was the vocabulary section. There were many words that I just had no clue what they meant so I had to guess, and there's really no way to study for it, either you know the word or you don't. I would go ahead and start now. What study guide did you get? I used the one that is published by the NLN, it comes with a CD also. I studied through each section and kept retaking all of the practice tests until I could get a 100 on each of them. Good luck to you!

Do you think the NLN book is sufficient enough, or should we pull from other resources as well?

I would say yes. As much information as you can get would be good. I am trying to get into a certain school that tells us which requirements would be useful. Also, the actual NLN website also lets you know what else, if any, to study.

I would imagine it wouldn't hurt to use more than one study resource. I didn't have much time to study so the NLN guide was all I used.

Hi Paeonia! Your right about everyone having different studying habits. I will definitely focus more on the math and physics part of studying. This is also a career change for me. I was a Communication major in college and i work as an administrative assistant. I have always loved the sciences; but I didnt go through with nursing because I didnt think I could handle the responsibility of someone else's life. Im gonna go for Nursing now, but the thought is still there. Are you in a program yet or just starting like me? Good Luck!

Hi! I'm still in pre-nursing finishing up my pre-reqs. I work full time and I've been patiently waiting for my son to get older so that I can focus on school. He's 17 now and our family is at a point where I can pursue this. It's finally time! I only have A&P II to complete which I'm taking this coming spring quarter. I just started back to school last year, I was able to transfer most of the credits, but I had to retake the sciences since they were "too old" :) I've applied to one program for summer admission and they will not be making decisions until sometime in June. If I don't get accepted into that program, then I will be applying in July for fall admission to the college that I currently attend.

What I've heard about the NLN, the science portion is different I guess for each person. The test I took had a lot of physics on it, but another lady that took it the week before I did said that she had a lot of A&P and life science on her test. I guess they mix up the questions and it's probably just a chance of what type of questions you end up with.

I also know how you feel. It's a huge responsibility to care for someone and I think everyone probably has the same concerns. I just try to focus on learning as much as I can and when the time comes I will hopefully be prepared with the knowledge needed to provide the best care. We can do this!

Oh boy, I just realized how long this post is.....lol! :)

M struggling To study using the guide and hope things will turn out positive I get depressed when I don't find a large envelope in the mail coz am waiting for a letter to get in the RN programme.

Anyone does anyone know how many questions are in the English, math n science and can one go back to unanswered quizes some tests u cannot go backwards once u submit the answer

There are 80 questions on the verbal section, 60 on the math section and 80 on the science. You have one hour to complete each section. You can go back and change your answers, in fact you can mark the ones that you are unsure of and go back, but once you click the button that you've completed that section, then you can't go back. I hope this helps.

Your so kind thank you so much for ur time. The verbal part is nuts I'm Reading strange English hope to do well

You're welcome and good luck on the test!
