Study abroad?

Is it possible to get off of work for 7 weeks to study abroad?

:thnkg:

At this current time I know I'm unable to get off of work because I don't have enough PTO hours, but what if I would have had enough. Would a hospital really let a nurse off for that long to go half way across the world to increase her knowledge in a foreign language that could very easily be used in the hospital setting?

Has anybody ever tried this before?

If you are a union hospital, or have a policy for leaves of absence, you can leave with your job position on hold (1 year for my hosp) while still getting health benefits for 3 mos. You don't get paid. I can't imagine any manager giving 7 weeks straight paid "vacation" to anyone.

Where I work they would tell you to pound salt! But we do exchanges with a Russian hospital on occasion since our medical director is involved somehow over there, but the unit has to be able to spare you, which it usually can't.
