Student APN wants to specialize.

I am in my first semester for ANP. I am still in theory and research so I haven't had to decide where I want to specialize. However, I was talking to a uroligist the other day and I was very interested in his practice which specifically treats Male infertility and ED.

My question is how do specialize? Which program is the best if I want to specialize into urology?

Also, does anyone have specific experience in this area? I would like to know where to go to get the experience and training to work in this area.

Thanks.

Mark

Talk with an adviser at your school for guidance. I have always been interested in diabetes. The program I was in (ANP) included three separate clinical rotations; two of them were primary care of the adult and one could be in a specialty. I arranged that clinical rotation to be at an endocrinology practice, which worked out very well. That student experience led to my current job. I work on an inpatient glucose management team that is part of a research study at a local hospital.

In your case, your adviser can let you know if it would be possible to arrange clinical experience with a urologist who treats adults. A lot of urologists are hiring NPs these days, so I should think finding a clinical placement would be a breeze.
