most GN start working before passing their boards. Its ok to feel nervous we all did at this time. Choose a field were you will feel comfortable in. Start looking now. If Resp/ICU is what you love go for it! why wait.

If possible try to do some shadowing. This make help in making up your mind

i agree with her, why not pursuing what u love :) but, take nursing as a challenge, maybe for now it's not well, but once u see whats beyond, you may find it interesting.. it is a way to append to your career and flexibility.. Hope it help :) godbless!!

Im in a smaller hospital and my Rt job is hard to keep as far as people needing jobs. my dellema is not everywhere is hiring in our hospital im interested in and some wont take new grads. I feel torn because I love my job now and if I jump out of it I may not have the opportunity due to the small hospital to get back in. What if the only option for me is floor nursing where i know I wont be happy. Dont get me wrong I love our floor nurses they are awesome and i give kudos for all they do. I feel like for me it is so unethical to have 4-5 patients and feel Im giving them the proper care they need. Im a people person and I feel part of healing is communication which most of our floor RNs dont get much time to do. I love intubating and love trauma which our hospital dont have a unit for and I enjoy code situations because its comfortable for me. I guess what Im asking of everyone is if they have a good way to help me sort through my dilema of RRT vs RN world. Im in my rotation of preceporship in the RN program and Im with Float pool. I was hoping this would help me, but so far Im still torn.

if someone with your credentials came to me I would hire them over a "generic" grad student. You have great experience and already know how to handle patients, know the hospital pecking order, etc. I think you should pick what is best for you, knowing that you are not married to that unit and can transfer at a later date.

So are you telling me If it was you, you should just finish school and take boards and then wait for the opportunity to transfer to the unit I like instead of just taking anything to get experience?
