Hi,

I am in CO right now and waiting to find out if I got into NS here. However, if I don't get in I will be moving home near our place in Centralia while my hubby works out there. I was researching some of the Associate Programs off the DOH site and have one question. I feel silly asking, but can someone please tell me what a Step Program is?? :lol2:

Thanks so much!

I could be wrong, but I think step programs are referring to programs where you can enter the nursing profession by working your way up the "hierarchy" so to speak.

For example after you do your LPN, you can do a step program to a RN (LPN-RN programs). Then, after you get your RN, you can do another step program and transition to your BSN (RN-BSN programs).

I know most community colleges have LPN-RN options. Also, UW Bothell and UW Tacoma offer a great program for the RN-BSN, in which you can get it your BSN in a year's time (full-time). I think the idea of these programs is to not only lighten the academic load by going at a more manageable pace, but also they seem to lessen the financial burden and be cheaper than going straight for your RN or BSN.

Lastly, I believe Pacific Lutheran University has a LPN to BSN program as well. I hope this answer will suffice.
