which state to get license in

Published

I will be graduating nursing school in May in IL. However, I will be moving to Minnesota the day after I graduate. Should I get my IL license and then transfer it by endorsement? Or should I just get my Minnesota license?

I was just gonna do Minnesota but the state nursing website doesnt give me a lot of clear information about what to do. My school is not much help either with Minnesota. However, they are pretty much holding our hand when it comes to signing up for test taking here in IL. They literally told us what to put on all the forms and such. Also, I wont be wanting to start working until september at least due to having a baby in july. So I am in no huge rush to have my licence.

one more question. if i go the IL route, can i sit for the nclex in the state of MN if it will be for an IL licence?

If you know for sure that you're moving to MN, I don't see the point of getting an IL license first -- why pay for two licenses when you don't need one of them? You can apply for MN licensure from IL, and take the NCLEX in whatever location is most convenient for you (ditto if you apply for IL licensure).

Is this the page you looked at on the website? Looks pretty clear to me; what part of the process are you having difficulty understanding?

ok now i feel like an idiot. i literally spent a couple of hours on this website and never found that page.

thanks very much

You're welcome. :) Best wishes!
