Starting to panic

Published

I start my first RN nursing course next week and I'm really starting to panic. I'm panicking about if I can handle the class workload, if I'll be good enough, have I chosen the right field of study, will I be able to find work, and politics of being an RN. I was told that nursing is pretty cutthroat, maybe it depends on where you work I suppose. I know I probably shouldn't focus on a few of these just yet but it is hard not to I can feeling confidence slipping a little at a time the closer I get to that class. Just felt like venting a little I'm sure of few of you have felt the same before, I'm glad this forum is here.

Oh ... Nursing school ... I love it and at times .. I h h h ..a - t e . .

No I don't hate it... Sometimes it is just not my cup of tea... (:

My advice is be kind to everyone. Carry an open mind. Don't be afraid.

This got me through MY first semester.

Take a deep breath. Sounds like you're overthinking this. It's ok (actually very good) to be concerned about your future but don't second guess yourself before the journey starts.

Politics are everywhere, they're part of life. You can choose not to be involved. Make your number 1 priority be doing the best you can in school and learning as much as you can.

Good luck.

Keep it together until the first day! haha

But really, I think everyone has those jitters right before they start. But once you're in class that first day and trembling in your shoes, that feeling will soon dissipate in the first week/month or so. At least it did for me. I can't speak for everyone, but I think it's like anything that's big in your life. You hype yourself up, worried, excited, anxious, scared, all at the same time, and then you do it, and feel relieved.

I feel exactly the same as you do! I think a lot of the nervousness/fear is due to the unknown. I'm hoping once we get our feet wet with the first couple of classes, we will realize its very possible to handle nursing school. I'm already reading chapters that my teacher assigned and its a good bit of material. So at least I have a little insight of what is to come. I'm sure most new students feel the same as we do. So we're not alone!

I'm feeling overwhelmed and panicked as well. I will begin my first semester of an absn on Monday. I received an email from my clinical professor about completing tests to be allowed to attend class. I have no idea where these tests/quizzes are! So now I'm anxiously waiting to hear back from her. I'm sure we will all be fine once we get into class and get settled with schedules. Right now though, I'm a confused mess.

Dont stress yourself over it too soon. You are human, you can adapt to change. Many people before you have accomplished what you are about to begin. Try your best, utilise your time and you will do just fine. Show up to class on time and prepared, it goes a long way.
