Starting Nursing school

Published

Hi all,

I'm a little older and have decided to go back to school for my nursing degree. I'm almost 33. I'm really scared as I have been away from school for a loooong time. Do all of the nurses love their jobs? What would you change if you could? I'm just scared I'm making the wrong choice. i question everything i do a million times and hold myself back from a lot of things in life. Thanks in advance.

No - all nurses do not love their jobs.... just like all other professions. If you are choosing nursing because of an idealized impression of 'angels of mercy' receiving a continuous stream of accolades from grateful patients & spending your days 'saving lives' .... you're waaay off base. Nursing is a noble profession, but unfortunately, the way we earn our pay is by working in a job that is designed to meet the needs of an employer rather than the nursing profession. There is an enormous body of literature for many decades which reveals that most nurse feel much better about their profession than their job. It's an inescapable dichotomy.
