Starting at Cochran fall 2014

Yes, I am currently entering my 3rd semester there. Get the Saunders NCLEX book as soon as you can. Start reading about how to effectively take nursing school exams as well as the chapter on the nursing process. You will also need to take Dosage calculations a great resource for that is dosagehelp.com. If you are weak in math try going to this site over the summer and get an idea of what it is about. There should be a chapter in the Saunders book as well on doagae. Finally, what hepled me is simplenursing.com they have a facebook page as well and I believe there is a code you can use to get a discount on the subscription. Good luck.

Thank ou so much. I did use Linares before and he does help alott. I used him for Anatomy and Physiology and i did get a A in that class! Also if i would have known about dosagehelp.com i would not have failed pharmacology at CUNY BCC(which I sometimes think they set you up for) I failed it twice there, with different professors!

I am very nervous because it has taken me a long time to get here and I do not want to fail or be help back anymore. How are the professors at Cochran... I have had some bad experiences with frusrated, unhappy professors. How are they and how much do they encourage questions?

Congrats! I understand the fear of losing something you have worked so hard for. I graduated from the program recently. General Note: Welcome to the world of nursing, get ready to study until you physically feel sick.

Fundamentals: you should get Fundamental Success (no need to buy it, there will be plenty of copies at the school library). It's a series and they have one for every course (i.e med-surg, pediatrics, maternity). The style of those questions really get you prepared for the exams. Make sure you read through the rationales when reviewing your answers. In nursing, its good that you know the answer but you have to know why you're choosing it. That knowledge will help you answer other questions even if you don't remember the material. Math Dosage: They change the professors from time to time. If you're worried about the math then I'd review at least a month in advance. At least you won't be as confused when you start the class. As someone mentioned above, Saunders is a GREAT resource and its definitely one of the few supplemental books that you should spend your money on. Medical-surgical: I personally didn't find the exams extremely hard. Medical-surgical Success + Saunders really prepared me well. Depending on the instructor you get, clinical can be…challenging. (HA!) Don't let it break you. Remember how hard you worked to get into nursing school and just roll with the punches. Once you get passed med-surg I, it's fine. The exams will be A LOT harder but the instructors are supportive- be ready to really buckle down.

How are the instructors? It depends if you are in the day or evening program. If you are evenings, you will be very frustrated with your instructor. The day instructor is much better. Med surg, I loved my instructor. Just keep in mind that there is nothing fun about it. It is a ton of work but very rewarding. Go to the lab to practice as often as you can. You will get through it as most of us do. Best of luck.

The test was not as bad as I thought but they do throw in some simple dosage questions and whether or not to administer a medicine to a child. Science was toughest for me but I felt I could have prepared better because th info was in the book. and for reading just READ, if unsure READ again.I changed 13 questions from incorrect to correct in my reading section just because I reread. Watch the time for math because it easy to run out of time. I finished with 30 secs left on the clock!!! I wish you the best of luck and study, study, better early than cramming

Hey Yulenny. Congrats on your acceptance to CSON. I'm actually starting in Fall 2014 as well but for the evening program. Unfortunately I won't be able to make orientation due to a trip I scheduled back in Feb. What are your orientation dates? I spoke with Kathi and she suggested I get the information from a classmate if possible. How are you feeling? Are you excited? Nervous?
