Good day to all nurses.
I hope somebody can help me regarding my problem about Social Security Number (SSN).
Is there a possibility that SSN might be expired or recalled?
Here is a little background of me.
I am a RN in the Philippines and a second courser (IT).
I was given a SSN when I took my masteral in the US 9 years ago. The masteral program has a CPT so I was required to work and I was given a SSN with a certain restriction as stated: "valid for work only with INS authorization".
Now I am about to fill licensing documents such as CGFNS-CES, Cali.BON or Illinois BON.. is it fine if I am going to use my SSN?
Thanks.

I am not an expert on this matter, but the number they gave you is yours forever!! Unless you are authorized to work in US, you are fine to use it, that is your work permit need not be expired. Actuallly what you need to worry about is your work permit! If that is up todate , you are nor doing anything wrong.
But why not call the SSN office in your local area and get the right answer. These kind of question need to be resolved from experts. Dont take a chance on something that is government issue here.(friendly advice)
I hope everything works fine for you and good luck

Your SSN is permanent once issued to you. There are 3 types of Social Security Cards, the type that was issued to you had a notation that states that it is only valid for work with INS (or DHS) authorization. Regardless, that is a permanent number assigned to you. Hypothetically, if you return to the US and eventually become a US citizen, the same 9-digit number will be valid with the exception of the notation you previously had in your old card being removed when the new card is issued. I believe the Social Security Administration does recycle or reissue previously assigned 9-digit numbers of individuals who are confirmed to be deceased. They obviously have no clue if you are living or not as you are out of the country so I doubt that your number would be reissued to another person. If you are in still in doubt, call the Social Security Administration to confirm: http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10002.html#information

I would get in touch with social security and present them with your question. It also states "valid for work only with INS authorization" so there is a restriction with your social. I would also contact CGFNS-CES, & the BRNs if you're able to submit this number with your application and let them know about the restriction. You DEFINATELY don't want to do something that might get you in trouble. Then at least you're up front and honest that there are restrictions. Since it says "valid for work only with INS authorization" I would suspect that you can't use it for your applications, because it clearly states the only way to use it. It doesn't say that you can use it for applications for BRN's CGFNS-CES etc...But make sure....Good Luck
Good day to all nurses. Is there a possibility that SSN might be expired or recalled?
Thank you for all the suggestions and advise.
Allow me to share some information regarding SSN that I gathered.
I called the Social Security Administration regarding the status of my SSN and I am glad to hear that it is still active and will be active for a lifetime, my lifetime of course. The restriction "valid for work only with INS authorization" will be lifted or removed if I will be an immigrant. A new card will be issued without the restriction but the same number.
Other information that I got is that they are not reissuing SSN. If a person died and it is confirmed by the SSAdmin, his/her SSN will be added to the Social Security Death Index.
CGFNS and Illinois BON uses the SSN for background information verification (child support, loans, criminal records, etc). Just to verify if you are really telling the truth in the application form.
That's great news. Good luck
