I'm currently in my A&P II class and it ends in two weeks. I was accepted to start my nursing program in five weeks with a contingency letter. As long as I pass I can start.
My instructor has a medical degree but never completed his residency. I have had a hard time with his lectures from the beginning of the semester because he spends a lot of time going off on tangents and talking about himself. But I use that time to go over notes and with the help of my study partner have been pushing myself to learn as much as I can even though this instructor is practically handing out A's.
Today he is spouting off about his rotation at an oncology office and how a patient told her doctor that she would have to transfer care because of an insurance change and the $50 copay per visit would be too much. My instructor had the nerve to tell us verbatim, "I couldn't believe that this patient didn't even think the doctor was worth $50! She probably left that office an spent $50 on pizza to eat in front of her tv!"
At this point I'm appalled at how out of touch he is. So we have a conversation that looks like this:
Me: Did you know the patient personally?
Instructor: No.
Me: So how can you be so sure what her disposable income is like?
Instructor: Everybody can manage $50 every couple of weeks.
Me: I would have to disagree given the state of our economy.
Instructor(shouting at this point): I know what I'm talking about! I might not know everything but I know this and I'm not going to argue over it!!!
Me: I won't be yelled at by you. My only point is that most of us are here because we plan to go into healthcare and I think you should be promoting compassionate care.
I get up and leave the room. As soon as I get into my car I burst into tears. Maybe I was wrong for even starting this but he makes me so angry. I won't let him keep me from the nursing program but I hate that I have to go back to his class on Monday.
Thanks for letting me vent!
