So frustradted.....

Published

I finished all prerequisites to qualify for the LVN program at Mt. San Jacinto Community College. I was so excited about applying for the program and my nursing school future. I decide to search on this website about other peoples experience for the LVN program at MSJC. I come to find out I need all A's to even be considered to be accepted into the program, and the school only take 12 students! I happened to get two B's and an A, in the prerequisites, so I pretty much out of luck. I was so excited about my future, now I'm held back. I'm now getting desperate and thinking of paying a ridiculous amount of money and going to Concorde College, or similar school. My life is sucking right now. -Jaime

Dont be frustrated. Its not that they wont take you but they will take someone with A's over you. You never know..just apply. Check out schools in San Diego county, check out Palomar, mira costa, national university, grossmont college, san diego city college, southwestern college(might be too far for you), and Maric college (now known as Kaplan). If this is truly what you want to do you will work hard and make a sacrafice. Good luck to you. :) :heartbeat

APPLY, APPLY, AND APPLY!!!!! You never know.....There's nothing wrong with a vocational school. If you have to take out a loan to pay for it, the interest is a tax write off...GOOD LUCK!

For me, im 24 and my goal was to do this by 30. I wanted to "get it out the way" by considering Maric but too many things told me not to. Im not saying they are bad. I have heard mixed reviews. Being at school with people who are planning to also get into nursing also gives me help & support. From what I heard other schools get more clinical & it's not so fast paced. For me taking Chemistry as a 8 week course was difficult I couldnt imagine taking nursing courses at a fast pace. Besides, with Maric you must have previous medical experience & if not you have to become a CNA which God bless their little souls but I just dont want to. I make 45,000 now & I cant imagine working full time, school, and CNA. When I start nursing school im going to live off my savings & part time job but not CNA. Plus the $$$ I dont want to take out student loans, be in debt, then go back for my BSN and be in more debt. Plus with Maric Its not accredited by the WACS is believe thats what it is so basically the units dont transfer unless you go to university of phoenix which is a little over 1K per class excluding books & supplies. Depending on your employer you might not get reimbursed. SO you see it all depends. Weigh your options first. Nurses are in high demand and I doubt that will ever go away. The program @ Grossmont cost about 7K in total. I rather have that than 45K+in student loans & go at a slower pace so I understand everything & am more fully prepared. Also check out the passing rates of NCLEX in California. Maric has gotten better but you might want to see for yourself. Good Luck!! :)

I would avoid Maric--they're not NLN accredited last I heard. Makes it hard to go any further.
