skilled nursing unit

How is skilled nursing unit different from the med/surg unit in the hospital? Do hospitals consider experience in skilled nursing unit an experience at all or is it count the same as experience in the nursing homes? Is it worth working skilled nursing unit to gain experience?

in our facility the med/surg and skilled nurses may work in either unit. Skilled is not rehab or nursing home, but has some aspects of both. The patient is discharged from the acute care setting, then admitted to skilled and must meet strict admission requirements. They generally stay days to weeks but are getting various rehab therapies and, of course, the care of a skilled nurse.
