skilled nursing unit??

Published

I am graduating next week (BSN) and the hospital I am interested in gaining employment has a skilled nursing unit. What exactly is skilled nursing (in a hospital setting) and what type patients do they have? Also is this a good area for a new grad to start?

In between a nursing home and regular in-patient hospital care. Depends on the actual facility if they take patients on vents or not. Some do, some don't.

I personally always recommend regular hospital units, skilled nursing is not always even managed by that facility. Many times it is run by a separate company and does not belong to the actual hospital. These are things that you need to ask them.

And normally more patients than you would get on a regular med-sug floor. They do not have to abide by staffing ratios if your state has them, they are under different statutes.
