simulations

Does anyone have a great simulation scenarios, or any suggestions where I can get some? We have 2 VitaSims, but are not using them to their capacity. I am having trouble coming up with some on my own. Don't mind buying a book of them , but could use a suggestion on the best one.

We are an LVN program, so need to make it VN level.

If you go to Laerdal's site, there is a discussion forum with some simulation ideas. What types of simulations are you looking for? We have written some ourselves that have pretty good outcomes with evaluations.

we are looking for some basic ones: cardiac, diabetes, etc.

Anything will help.

Hi,

I would suggest this site: https://evolve.elsevier.com/staticPages/index.html. You can register as an nursing instructor in order to gain access to their Case Studies RN Medical Surgical 2009 for free. After you register, your registration will be forwarded to the book representative in your area. All they have to do is verify your status as an instructor from the college/university you work for, then you will receive email that you can now access the book (online).

If this process is complicated for you, you can also buy the book. I have access to these med/surg (different diagnosis from heart failure to pancreatitis to COPD, etc.) case studies and they have been very helpful to me and my students. There's maybe about 30 med/surg case studies, if I'm not mistaken.

Hope this helps and good luck. I know you will find these case studies very informative.

I went through the old journals I had and kept the stories, case studies and anything that had a name and situation. When we want to do a simulation about in conjunction with course content, the lab coordinator pulls these and gets the faculty expert opinion to add extra detail. We have a stack about 12 inches high!

There is also a grad school that has a requirement for students that they write at least one simulation and do it with students. This may be a way for you to get some scenarios.

I hope this helps!:monkeydance:
