Sick time

Im rarely out sick , today was one of them I called the office manager and explained I had a severe toothache and abscess and had a appt at 1130. My office is a hour drive, my dentist is on town where I live, she said we will block your schedule until 2:00 so you can at least see a few afternoon pt's. I told her no I was not coming in to drive a hour to be there for a hour or so then drive back home . Her response was we can get one of our dentists to see you then you can go back to work. My next response was I understand we are here for our patients but I can't be there in pain or on narcotics that's not being there for the patient. was I too abrupt or just looking out for everyone's welfare. She was quite put off that I told her no I was not coming in

Well I didn't hear the conversation, so I can't say if your tone was abrupt but your rationale seems sound to me.
